(Excerpt) Interview with Fabrizio Constanza : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Fabrizio Constanza : Seems like all office products have being evolving but the coat stand. My wife Claudia, is an Interior Designer and she asked me where could she find a nice coat stand, then I researched and did not find anything. That is where it started. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Fabrizio Constanza : After plenty of research, my conclusion was that coat stands lack personality and aesthetic qualities. The Coat stand is a focal piece in an office as it is a desk and a chair, so it has to be appealing. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Fabrizio Constanza : So far I make them and sale them, But I would like to see a furniture company produce it and market it. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Fabrizio Constanza : This is such an interesting question, every time I hear it, my brain always think: “hhhmmm time since the idea was bouncing on my head or since I finally began sketching. For me design is like when kids play. It is hard to define time. What I can say is that from my initial notes to the first sale it took around 6 months. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Fabrizio Constanza : I design this particular concept because, as an independent designer, I found the need for this product in the market, I need to pay the bills and I knew it would sale well. So far so good. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Fabrizio Constanza : It would be nice to lease it to another company, also develop design 2 and 3. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Fabrizio Constanza : Really the other coat stands in the market are horrible. Do a fast image search in google. I have many corporate friends who wear blazers. They hate the regular four stick-hander-key cup stand. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Fabrizio Constanza : I guess there are. When I at the begging of a project, I always look for cars. For this project I had on my screen saver a 1957 Black Ferrari Testa Rossa, and a Yellow Lamborghini LP40. The first Lande is yellow Lamborghini. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Fabrizio Constanza : The corporate world, Image is a very important issue in the corporate world, this product is an asset. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Fabrizio Constanza : This product was designed having in mind the end user and the environment around it. It is for office use. Once a client bargaining the price ask me: “hey but is missing the keychain holder and the pants holder? I answer her: well I guess the keys can be on top of the desk or the blazer pocket, hhmmmm about the pants?? Come on is for the office. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Fabrizio Constanza : My Dad, his friends and family call him Lande. he always wear suits and blazer, so Its my way to say thanks dad for everything. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?.
